SACL’s custom-built piston flume enables precise testing of soil erodibility and critical shear velocity. Soil samples are transferred directly from Shelby tubes into the flume’s piston sample tube for in-situ analysis.
With metered flows up to 6 m/s, the system captures fluid shear on the soil surface at 10 readings per second. A computer-controlled actuator maintains the sample surface flush with the flume base, allowing for accurate erosion rate measurements in real time.
This advanced setup provides dependable, high-resolution data essential for assessing soil performance under hydraulic loading.
